SSH into CSCS Machine from on campus sites (Usage)
Start PuTTY by clicking:
Start --> Programs --> Internet and E-mail --> Putty 0.57
If you have PuTTy on your personal computer, please proceed with starting
the program in whichever way you have it set up.
When it starts up, type in the hostname (or IP address) of the location you are conntecting to:
Example, miele in the CSCS lab: miele.cscs.lsa.umich.edu
Then, on the left hand selection bar:
SSH --> Tunnels --> select "Enable X11 forwarding" (There will be a PuTTY secturity alert, click yes!)
Note: If you are running another SSH program instead of PuTTY, this option should also be avalible. Contact the CSCS administrators at cscs.admins@umich.edu if you have further questions.
To use CSCS GUIs in conjunction with your SSH program
Start up Hummingbird Exceed by clicking:
Start --> Programs --> Utilities --> Exceed --> Exceed

A toolbar will pop up in conjunction with your SSH program. While you were SSHed into the CSCS computers, you are now able to use GUI programs such as emacs, acroread, and netlogo.
Type in commands like you would at the CSCS machines and wait for GUIs to load.
